TOTO Washlet G5A vs Neorest RS: Which One is Better?
Comparing the TOTO Washlet G5A vs Neorest RS might seem like a simple exercise. They’re mostly the same, aren’t they?
Weighing the difference between these two bidet toilet combos from TOTO can sometimes feel like splitting hairs.
But zoom in and you might notice some differences that matter to you, such as seat comfort. More on that in a minute.
Are those differences enough to justify a higher price for the Neorest RS, or should you go with the more affordable TOTO G5A? Here’s what we think you’ll need to keep in mind.
TOTO G5A vs Neorest RS: Finding the Differences
The differences here are relatively small. Comparing the Washlet G5A vs TOTO RS means we first have to note the many similarities.
A lot of Neorest RS vs Washlet G5A feature comparisons aren’t really “versus” at all. They’re perfectly in line with each other.
For example, both TOTO toilets are ADA-compliant for accessibility and feature 3 year warranties.
Both toilets feature automatic air deodorizers, a heated seat and include adjustable temperature and pressure settings.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t differences. The question is how much those differences matter in your final decision on whether to purchase the G5A Washlet vs TOTO RS.
We've broken it down into five main areas:
- Design
- Comfort
- Flush Rate
- Warranty
- Price
Design Differences
A quick glance will reveal both toilets feature smooth curves and a minimalist design aesthetic that’s sure to fit in guest bathrooms or lend some serenity to your master bath.
The Washlet G5A has a slightly lifted back portion of the seat while the Neorest RS has a smoother, consistent line when closed.
This difference shows up in the TOTO Washlet G5A vs Neorest RS spec sheets.
The floor to seat height of the Neorest RS is 17 and 11/16” while the front seat of the Washlet G5A stands 17 and 5/16” above the ground.
It seems like a trivial design difference, but keep in mind that the total height of the TOTO G5A is 22 and 3/8” at its highest, while the TOTO RS is 21 and 9/16” tall in comparison.
This shows how much the seat lifts in the back portion of the Washlet G5A vs the TOTO Neorest RS.
Additionally, the TOTO G5A is 99 lbs, while the Neorest RS is a little lighter, shipping at 91 lbs.
If you have major space needs in your bathroom, these differences aren’t likely to sway your decision. They’re close enough in size that you may have trouble spotting the differences even if stacked near each other.
But if you’re a stickler to a particular aesthetic, the TOTO RS is a little sleeker. You can think of the Neorest RS as a bit more on the luxurious, premium end of the design spectrum.
The Washlet G5A isn’t designed to be as sleek, but more so the affordable smart bidet toilet alternative.
Comfort
The TOTO G5A’s EWATER+® system also shows up in the Neorest RS. So do features like premist and the CEFIONTECT ceramic glaze, which minimizes sticking to the porous surfaces of the ceramic.
However, there’s a greater emphasis on seat comfort with the Neorest RS. As we mentioned previously, there’s a difference in overall height and seated height for each model.
Highest point in the back for each model:
Seated height for both bidet toilets:
The difference in overall height vs seated height would be the difference in seat comfort.
While both models offer a comfortable sitting experience, if you want an extra-special comfortable bidet for a master bathroom, you’ll likely want to opt for the TOTO Neorest option here.
Both models have at least a 12” rough-in required for the space in your bathroom, there are some subtle design differences.
The Neorest RS is a better option if you want a sleeker, more modern design to fit with a specific space.
But there is another functional difference worth highlighting.
Flush Rates
The Neorest RS dual flush rate is 1.0/0.8 GPF (gallons per flush), while the Washlet G5A uses water a little more liberally at 1.2/1.0 GPF. So, if you opt for the more expensive option, you can expect it to yield a few pennies in water savings.
Both toilets offer the TORNADO FLUSH® system, however, which is worth noting. They’ll just differ in the gallons per flush.
If you're installing these toilets in a high-traffic bathroom, such as a family home or even a commercial setting, the difference in water usage could translate into savings over time (particularly if you’re planning on using these toilets for a long time).
Water-efficient models like the TOTO RS will help conserve more water, especially if you're in an area where water costs are high or conservation is a priority.
Saving roughly 0.2 gallons of water per flush might not seem like a lot at first and it may not even justify the large difference in price.
But if you’re getting enough flushes out of these toilets, you may find that the Neorest RS does make up for some of its higher price with more than just aesthetics.
Warranty
One area of somewhat major difference is warranty. Like the Washlet G450 it replaced, the TOTO G5A has a one year limited warranty. The Neorest RS on the other hand has a 3 year limited warranty.
Because the TOTO G5A falls under the "Washlet" category and not a Neorest (even though it's also a full bidet toilet) it does not have as strong of a warranty as the TOTO RS.

Despite there not being a lot of feature differences, the sleekness of the design overall aesthetic are how TOTO justifies the discrepancy in price.
