Brondell vs TOTO: Two Takes on Bidet Seat Innovation

From high-tech luxury to streamlined simplicity, these two brands redefine modern bidet seats and elevate your bathroom routine.

Brondell is a U.S.-based brand known for practical luxury. Their bidets seats, especially from the Swash line, offer:

  • Dual stainless steel nozzles
  • Sittable lids (meaning you can safely sit on the closed lid without damaging it which is something most bidet seats don't allow)
  • Tankless water heating for endless warm water
  • 3-year warranties on most models
  • A modern look with hidden cord/water line setups

"Price, plain and simple. Brondell hits that sweet spot for customers who want a decent feature set without paying TOTO money." — John Grant, Premier Bidets

I just had the opportunity to compare the Brondell BL97 to the Toto KS5.

The two seemed to be fairly comparable in quality of the seat, except the noted wand advantage of it being stainless steel on the Brondell and the Brondell sits a bit higher (also an advantage for seniors).

The technology is very different. While the water stays warm throughout the process on the Toto and for as long as you choose to wash, the Toto wand does not extend sufficiently for the front wash for my body design; it also periodically gets stuck extended and I have to do several wash cycles before it retracts. And another major functional Toto issue (“limitations” per Toto support) is that it requires water pressure specifications that my NYC apartment does not deliver nor allow me to control. The Brondell wand extends much further and consistently delivers adequate pressure, ergo coverage and reach — and although it has its own timer for washing, the Brondell does last as long and maintain the warm water as long as I need it to though. The initial spurt of the Brondell is not warm though.

Also, the Toto dryer is ineffectual. The Brondell BL97 does not have a dryer, so that evened that comparison out. :)

The efficient and simplistic design and ease of use of the Brondell remote is a major plus as well; and it has a memory function for its last use — while the Toto is way overcomplicated.

Both units are a PITA if they need repairs, as they need to be uninstalled, packed up and shipped to the manufacturer – and both have only a one year warranty unless you purchase extended ones… and then there is a long wait for its return and reinstall. After the warranty year, the repair cost is prohibitive.

So for my money, it is better to get the Brondell – at half the cost, if it goes south after 2-3 years, I can simply get another one.
