The steamhead sits 6 to 12 inches off the floor, and the control goes on the opposite wall at roughly 4 to 5 feet. Both belong away from where you actually sit, since the steamhead and its emissions get extremely hot.

The enclosure itself needs real changes. It has to be sealed with a vapor-tight membrane behind the tile, including the ceiling, and the ceiling needs a slight slope so condensation runs down the walls instead of dripping on your head.

The door has to close completely rather than being an open-top glass panel. Skipping any of this is how you end up with moisture trapped behind tile.

A sauna also needs a dedicated high-amperage circuit for the heater, and a wood-fired model adds a flue and clearance requirements. Both dilate your blood vessels, which temporarily lowers blood pressure and increases circulation to your skin and extremities. Both elevate your heart rate into a range that loosely mimics light activity, though neither replaces exercise.

Both help muscles feel looser after training, which is why gyms almost always have one or the other. Many people also report sleeping better after an evening session, though that's more consistent as a subjective report than as a measured effect.
